Wednesday Feb 26th club member Richard Reinecke and director George Niotta joined Johannes Kornacher, 2008 RAAM (Race Across America) participant on a road trip century ride from Temecula via Carlsbad and Elfin Forrest. Here they are at Oceanside Pier the site of the annual start of RAAM. Johannes who is Swiss born competed for a Swiss sponsored two man team with a 10 person support crew. They completed the race in just over 7 days. Thanks to Richard B, Nels & Doc for joining on the first 25 miles.
We ride it at least once a year. This time the crew went via Couser Canyon with mobile support the entire way. We started with 13 and finished with 11, only lost 2. That's pretty good!
Members gathered for a great dinner, awesome beer and many walked away with some great raffle items. Big winners were Richard Buffham- $200 gift certificate from B-rad's and Lisa & Russ Fortin- Private Wine tasting party for 10 from Wine on a Dime. Thank you to Corey and the crew for a great experience!
Velo members joined sponsor B-Rad's Bike Stop for a little ride on the SRT to Huntington Beach and a little lunch. Creed, Dave, George & Gordy.
Our lone participant in El Tour de Tucson. Rain, rain and more rain. At least Sunday had clear skies for the ride home.
Wow! What can I say! Temecula Velo has had a tremendous and successful first half for 2013. In the past six months, Temecula Velo has opened registration for its annual event, The Temecula Valley Century which is set to go October 12, 2013. We were successful in moving the event to its new location in Old Town Temecula. On top of that, many of our Velo members have achieved some pretty outstanding goals. We recently had members complete their first century at the San Diego Century on June 1st. We had 16 riders from Temecula Velo participate in this event. We also boast seven Velo members that have the California Triple Crown distinction (three double centuries in a year) and four Velo members that recently completed a double metric century (125 miles). Words cannot express how proud we are of our members and their achievements. Whenever we have members riding in these events, other members volunteer their time to come and provide SAG support! It's one thing to ride all of those miles but we could not do it without the support of our fellow Velo members. The members of our club are an extension of our families. Whether on a Coffee Cruiser or regular group ride, we are all there to motivate and support each other in our respective goals. I cannot say enough of how proud I am of Temecula Velo.
